Malaysia to face Korea, Lebanon in Asia Basketball Championship

Malaysia will be facing some tough battles in the coming Asia Basketball Championship.

 

Malaysia was drawn into group A, which Korea & Lebanon sitting in. Another team from Middle East will be decided later.

 

According to the group drawing rules, this 16-teams tournament will identify four seeded teams and spread into each group (A - D), follow by random lots drawing which to determine 2nd & 3rd team of each group. After that the host Chinawill have the incentive of opting in one of the groups. Lastly the remaining 3 teams will draw their destinies to fill up the remaining 3 slots. China decided to join the less pressured Group D, which consists of Philippines, UAE & Bahrain. With a position in group D China also manage to avoid powerhouses Iran & Lebanon during the second preliminary round, but might be encountering them in the knock out stage. China was defeated by Iran in previous Asia Basketball Championship.

 

This tournament will be held in WuhanChina from 15th – 25th September. Champion of this tournament will earn a spot in 2012 London Olympic, whereas 2nd & 3rd placing will need to go into Olympic qualifying round.
