Plagued by inconsistent shooting, our girls were unable to overcome the Haishan High School team. The final score of the game was 93-67 in favour of Haishan High School.
Our girls got off to a slow start, with shots from the perimeter adamantly refusing to fall. Liu Jung-Hsing from Haishan had the hot hand early on, hitting two 3-pointers to extend the Haishan lead to eight, with 5:24 left in the first quarter. Liu His-Yeh hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to increase the Haishan lead to 12 after ten minutes of play.
Liu Jung-Hsing continued her shooting streak into the second quarter hitting another three 3-pointers, making 5-of-7 from beyond the arc, scoring 19 points in the first half.
The Malaysians, though with more shot attempts than the Taiwanese, were not having a good shooting day, and only managed 27% from the field.
The Malaysians regained their shooting touch in the second half, hitting 5-of-11 three point attempts in the third quarter. The Haishan girls, however, continued to shoot well and both teams scored 24 points each in the third quarter, with Haishan maintaining its lead.
Our girls started the fourth quarter raring to go, with Hee Shook Ying scoring four points in a row off the offensive boards. A steal and score by Nur Izzati with 6:24 to go in the game reduced the Taiwanese lead to 11. Goh Beng Fong hit a three from way out, igniting the crowd and cutting the Haishan lead further to 8.
However, the Haishan girls kept their poise and point guard, Pan Taz-Yin, managed to drive all the way to the basket and kept the Malaysians at bay.
Our girls lost their shooting rhythm and were unable to score. The Haishan shots, on the other hand, continued to find the bottom of the net and they pulled away to win the game 93-67.
